We are collating data on our CO2 consumption within our wider supply chain operation and have now started to offset our carbon use as part of an eco and sustainability partnership.
We recognise that the environment and its natural resource are incredibly precious and we are constantly striving for new opportunities to improve sustainability within our own operations and wider supply chain. Our environmental strategy comprises a four part approach; reduce, remove, replace and rebalance. We are seeking opportunities to remove any unnecessary aspects to our operation that are negatively impacting the environment, from carbon emissions to unnecessary packaging. We are looking to replace existing materials, equipment and suppliers to more environmentally-friendly solutions. We are reducing the use of environmentally-unfriendly materials and equipment to the minimum requirements, with an aim to reduce our carbon footprint. If we are unable to remove, replace or reduce, we must find a solution to positively rebalance our negative impact with a positive one. We have identified opportunities to rebalance the impact of our carbon footprint and the use of packaging for our product portfolios.
As a business, we recognise that our product portfolios consume significant amounts of cardboard and paper. To offset this, we have introduced a commercial initiative that means when certain products from our ranges are purchased by consumers, the business will plant a tree on behalf of the consumer, through one of Ecologi’s global schemes. Our Buy Me and Plant a Tree initiative runs across our biggest brands and product divisions, including housewares and electrical. We have already planted over 230,000 trees and will continue to do so in the coming years.
At the beginning of 2021, with the help of Ecologi and our supply chain partners, we were able to start collating data on our CO2 consumption within our wider supply chain (Scope 3) operation. With accurate data we can start to offset this carbon use by investing in eco-based schemes offered by Ecologi.
Accredited carbon offset schemes such as this allow our business to invest and help fund initiatives that have a focus on developing new eco-friendly and/or renewable energy technology solutions to support future environmental sustainability.
This year, we have been accredited to the Environmental Standard ISO14001 and this helps set the framework against which we can effectively monitor our environmental procedures and performance throughout our teams and global operation. Our environmental committee are continuously striving to find new ways in which to support our long term eco goals.
